Why Book a Newborn Session in Advance

DSC_6226-EditBooking a photographer to capture baby’s newborn stage is on the to-do list for many expecting parents, but not all the parents think it needs to be done in advance, before they even deliver the baby. I often get last minute inquiries asking my availability for their newborn baby.  Sometimes it is too late to book a newborn session after your baby arrives because I am fully booked at that point. So why book a newborn photography session before your baby arrives?

This is something a lot of new parents ask: How can I even book a session when I don’t even know when the baby is going to arrive? My baby could arrive early or late.” This is of course very true. Unless you will have a scheduled c-section, you won’t know exactly when your baby will arrive.

Here is how my system works to make sure I photograph newborn babies in time for all my booked clients:  I take a certain number of due dates per month, with 2 maximum  due dates per week. I mark my clients’ due dates on my calendar and once the baby arrives, we will schedule a firm date for the session. I want to make sure all of my clients have the opportunity to get an appointment at the best possible time, which is within the first 2 weeks after birth.

I also want to be able to be flexible for my booked clients. Some clients might need a few more days due to delivery complications. Some babies might need a few more days before their first photo session due to jaundice, for example. I always prioritize my booked clients. Occasionally I will have openings and I will try my hardest to squeeze new clients in if I can.  If newborn photography is something that you really want for your family, then I recommend scheduling ahead just in case.

I currently only have one spot left for June, one for July and am fully booked for the month of August.  I am now booking for September and October – so if this is where your due date falls and you are interested in learning more about my in-home sessions, contact me today!
