2021 Fall Mini Session Planning Guide

I’m so excited that you have booked a Fall Mini Session with me!  We are going to have fun and I look forward to creating beautiful images for your family to cherish!

Spring Lake Park Reserve – Hastings MN

*Please plan on arriving a few minutes early so we can start shooting right at your scheduled start time. I usually do a few mini sessions back to back so being a little early allows your family to have the entire allotted 20 minutes and won’t take away from valuable shooting time.

Plan to meet in the Gathering Center parking lot (NOT by the building) and closest to the entrance of the park. You can look for my white Chrysler minivan if you are unsure where to park.

Depending on the time of day of your session, we will utilize different areas depending on the changing light. Plan to have comfortable shoes in case we need to walk a little ways or through some uneven terrain.

It’s best to keep the coordinating simple. Try not to overthink it.  I recommend picking 2-3 complementary colors and carry them throughout your outfits. Try to stay away from black and white and keep in mind that extremely bright colors such as pink and orange can cast unflattering colors on faces. You can never go wrong with cream or beige and a light pop of color.

Try to coordinate around a general color scheme, then mix and match different types of fabrics, patterns, solids, and accents.  I recommend sticking with the same family of colors (warms or cools) or choose three different colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. Most importantly, wear something you can have fun in!  You aren’t going to have fun if you don’t feel like yourself.  Wear something that makes you feel good and what makes you feel confident.  Something that will make you want to keep looking at your photos for years to come!

This time of year the weather can be very unpredictable, however we will most always plan to go ahead with your photos regardless of temperature. The only time we will reschedule is if it is raining during your scheduled time frame.  I recommend wearing extra layers for cold days. You can bring jackets along or a big warm blanket for a quick warmup in between shots. Hand and feet warmers tucked in pockets can work wonders too!

I would recommend bringing a blanket to sit on for sitting poses. Anything else is up to you!

-If you have young children who may not want to take photos, a tiny treat as a reward can sometimes work well (something that can be eaten quickly between photos and is not messy such as mini marshmallows or smarties that dissolve fast).

1. Plan outfits in advance.
2. Get plenty of rest.
3. Make sure children are well fed.
4. Don’t forget the props (a blanket for sitting poses is recommended) or anything else you’d like to incorporate.
5. Arrive early so we can start shooting right at your appointment time.
6. Have fun!
7. Watch for a sneak peek on Facebook within 24 hours then for your proofing gallery in 1-2 weeks.
8. Select your 10 favorite images with rights to print!

I am looking forward to our time together!  It’s going to be fun! Have a last minute question or concern?  Feel free to text or call me!  612-440-3031  or email: Kcalgarophotography@gmail.com
